Citizens for Tobacco Rights Supports Reasonable Regulations
Citizens for Tobacco Rights exists to keep adult tobacco consumers informed about proposed taxes and regulations that could impact them and provide resources to our members to speak out with a unified voice about proposed and implemented policies that unfairly burden adults who choose to smoke or dip.
We supports reasonable regulations that ensure tobacco products are only available to adults and are not sold by anyone other than licensed and regulated tobacco retailers.
Tobacco products should only be available to adults and sold by licensed and regulated tobacco retailers. Citizens for Tobacco Rights supports fully restricting the sale of all tobacco products to minors, as well as strict enforcement of these restrictions by state and municipal authorities.
These efforts by lawmakers, tobacco companies, and retailers have driven underage use of conventional tobacco products to historic lows. The recent move by the federal government to raise the legal age of purchase to 21 will continue this progress, limiting social access, and keeping tobacco out of the hands of kids.
Limiting the sale of tobacco products to licensed retailers not only helps to ensure that tobacco products are only available to adults, but also does not become a source of revenue for criminal enterprises.
Citizens for Tobacco Rights supports tools and legislation that effectively address the growing issue of the illicit tobacco trade. Unchecked, the illicit tobacco trade hurts law abiding businesses, diverts anticipated government tax revenue, exposes minors to tobacco products and increases crime in our communities.
